Valparaiso High School is pleased to announce six new members of the Athletics Hall of Fame as voted on by the committee. These individuals will be recognized during the Vikings' home football game on Friday, September 18 followed by the induction ceremony and reception on Saturday, September 19 in the VHS Auditorium. The 1964 graduate led the Vikings to the semistate championship game as a senior. He went on to a successful career at the University of Wisconsin where he averaged nearly 10 points per game. 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐘 𝐃𝐔𝐁𝐒𝐊𝐘 - Golf Dubsky is the most accomplished girls golfer in school history. She owns every record including nine of the top 10 lowest rounds and a career scoring average of 73.4. A 2014 graduate, Dubsky continued her golf career at UNLV. She helped the Rebels win two two conference championships before earning her degree in just three years. 𝐒𝐀𝐌 𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐍 - Football Ficken switched gears from soccer to football as a high school junior and it paid off handsomely. He helped the Vikings to a 13-1 season as a senior before a loss in semistate and was first-team Associated Press All-State kicker for class 5A. The 2011 graduate kicked a school-record 52-yard field goal, and went on to a successful career at Penn State before kicking in the NFL. 𝐌𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐖 - Cross Country / Track Prow taught and coached boys varsity cross country and track in the Valpo school system for 33 years before retiring in 2014. He led the Viking boys cross country team to two state championships (1997, 2000) and coached several athletes in distance events at the state track meet. A graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Prow moved on to coach cross country and track in the state of Arizona after retiring from VHS. 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐘 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐓 - Basketball Schmidt moved to Valparaiso as a high school senior and made his one season with the Vikings count. Already a highly-ranked recruit who committed to the University of Arizona, Schmidt led the team to a sectional title before graduating in 1989. He played two seasons at Arizona before a memorable two-year run at Valparaiso University followed by several years as a professional overseas. 𝐉𝐎𝐇𝐍 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋 - Basketball A star player during the early years of the Virgil Sweet era, Worstell scored more than 500 points as a senior before graduating in 1960. He averaged 20.3 points per game and is recognized as the first player to dunk a basketball at VHS. He went on to play at Purdue where he graduated with a pharmacology degree. He eventually moved on to a successful real estate career in Valparaiso.
