Homestead Holiday Tournament, 3rd place game vs Zionsville: In the consolation game for third place, the Vikings took on the Zionsville Eagles. It was a very close first half that consisted of a back-and-forth battle between both teams. Valpo had the lead 25-23 going into the half. Jack Smiley was held in the first two quarters by a 2-3 zone that followed him around wherever he went. In the second half, he freed himself up to get the ball more and get to his areas on the floor where he felt comfortable. Smiley was all over the court, scoring, grabbing rebounds, and passing the ball. He finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Sophomore guard KJ Avery stepped up big with 11 points when Smiley was being denied the ball. Caden Crowell also added 10 points in the win. The Vikings finished the tournament in third place, finishing 3-1, with the only loss being to the tournament champions. -Michael Opperman, VHS Senior
