Valparaiso High School has announced Jason Cook as its Head Wrestling Coach. A 2002 VHS graduate, Cook brings a wealth of coaching and teaching experience as well as a stellar background on the mat. His coaching journey includes eight years as an assistant coach at Chesterton and seven years as a head coach with stints at Fishers, Hobart and Wheeler. Cook achieved an impressive high school career record of 168-12 while coached by his father and longtime VHS head wrestling coach, John Cook. He was named the IHSAA mental attitude award recipient and he clinched the state championship title as a senior with a perfect 48-0 record, adding to his accolades as a state runner-up as a Freshman and Junior. After high school, Cook went on to wrestle at Purdue in the ultra-competitive Big 10 conference. A dedicated English Teacher, Cook holds a Bachelor's degree in English Education from Purdue University and a Master's degree in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. "We are thrilled to welcome Jason back to Valpo as our new Head Wrestling Coach," said Stacy Adams, Athletic Director at Valparaiso High School. “Valpo Wrestling and the Cook family are forever connected and we can’t wait to see Jason’s impact on all levels of our program." "It's great to be back in Valpo, where I grew up alongside the wrestling program,” Cook said. “I am committed to creating a culture embodying grit, toughness, intelligence, and skill to create teamwork and integrity on the mats, in the classroom, and throughout the community."
