ATTEND VHS ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME EVENTS - Sept 20 & 21

VHS Athletics Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at halftime of the home Varsity Football game versus Chesterton this Friday, September 20. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 21 in the Valparaiso High School Auditorium - doors open at 11:00am. The event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and will include a ceremony followed by a reception, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and fans to congratulate the inductees. We'll hear from 2024 Inductees as well as 2010 Inductee, Bryce Drew. Tickets to to the induction ceremony on Saturday are FREE in the Athletic Office (open 8am-3pm, M-F) and linked here: https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=94003 ------ Valparaiso High School announced the 2024 class of inductees for the Valparaiso High School Athletics Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the Viking athletics legacy, both on and off the field. The 2024 class includes standout athletes, influential coaches, and dedicated community members whose achievements have left a lasting impact. "We are thrilled to honor these remarkable individuals who have contributed so much to the rich tradition of Viking Athletics,” VHS Athletic Director Stacy Adams commented. “Their achievements have inspired future generations of student-athletes. This year's Hall of Fame class represents the spirit and excellence of Valparaiso High School." 2024 Hall of Fame Inductees: Maria (Astrologes) Combs, Class of 1969 The 1969 graduate played collegiate golf at San Fernando Valley State and the University of New Mexico before an 8-year career in the LPGA. Robert Cain, Class of 1949 A 1949 graduate, Mr. Cain played golf for the Vikings but is well-known for his career as an art teacher and golf coach. Jim Crowell, Class of 1992 A multi-sport athlete, Mr. Crowell graduated in 1992 having earned nine letters in four years in cross country, basketball, baseball and track. He played professional baseball for 13 years. Dana (Drew) Shaw, Class of 1990 A 1990 graduate, Mrs. Shaw played one year for the Vikings after moving from Penn before having a stellar career at Toledo. She is in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Knoefel “Butch” Jones, Class of 1959 Mr. Jones was an integral part of Viking basketball teams in the late 1950s playing for Hall of Fame coach Virgil Sweet. He was part of three sectional-winning teams before embarking on a teaching/coaching career before starting his own construction business. Scott Martin, Class of 2007 The 2007 graduate was the star of three Valparaiso teams that won 66 games and three sectionals before a college career primarily at Notre Dame. Todd Van Keppel, Class of 1981 His career as a punter/kicker for the Vikings concluded in the fall of 1980, but Mr. Van Keppel returned as a long-time coach after a Hall of Fame career at Northern Illinois.
